I thought I ask this question here as I know some people on the forum struggle with similar things themselves.
I'd say 2 or 3 yeara ago I started to get a hoarse voice and was coughing a lot, I went to the docs who said it was acid reflux, he referred me at the time to have an endoscopy to see what was going on, (which I hated, I wished I'd have had the sedation! But anyway that's another story) they said at the hospital that I had a heital hernia which is pretty common from what I can gather, for the last 12 months I've been having bouts of symptoms, which seem, whether it be coincidence or not, at a time of stress, the symptoms I'm getting are abdominal muscle pains, they don't feel like cramps as I know this feeling as I also get bouts of ibs! (The thrills!) They feel like muscle pain but very irregular, I get a pain just under my sternum that is also on and off, I get stomach upset, also affecting my bowels! I get a very slight feeling that it's affecting my breathing, although not a great deal but I am noticing it.....
I suppose my question is, does this sound like a bout of acid reflux and has anyone else had these symptoms? They can go on for around 10 days, I'm almost certain it's linked to stress, we recently had a baby 7 months ago, my wife's father died 9 weeks ago, I have a lot of things hanging over me financially at this point in time.... it does make sense to me that this is causing it and I suppose I'm really after a little reassurance, everyone around me is telling me it's thus but when I read about acid reflux symptoms most people say they just take a bit of gaviscon and off it pops, and it really doesn't seem to working that well for me.....
Any advice would be of help to me! Jon 🙂

By the way, i am very much a worrier, always have been, I'm not perfect but I'm certainly in a better place than I was 4 or 5 years ago, I am basically not usually in the present moment, forever seeing the worst in my mind, I have had CBT 3 times and ACT also, I am what the world would call a catastrophiser extraordinaire! But I have definitely worked at it and am always making headway

Hey Jon, sorry to hear about the loss of your wife's father, as well as all the hard times you're going through. It might certainly be stress related. Stress does a bunch of nasty things to the body (and mind) eventually. I think what happens a lot is that people become so stressed with life, and then resort to eating bad foods. Either to cope, or out of ease. So, perhaps something to look into. Not trying to sound like I'm accusing you of eating bad stuff, though. : -)

Certain medications can also cause acid reflux.

Beyond that, stress isn't good for the body, but, stressing about being stressed is something you should try to avoid. Stressing about how stressed you are will only work against you. Hope this helps somewhat. I don't know much about acid reflux, but I just thought I'd chime in.

Hope all is well.

Thanks, I don't drink, don't smoke, I eat quite well although over Xmas I have eaten more chocolate than I normally would, other than that I don't really eat crap, I am very active, play squash, go running, walk miles and miles.....
I think stressing about stress sounds kind of right for me, I do that even now, with everything I know I still do it, it creates holy hell with me 😄
The fatigue I've had over Xmas has just been the worst, but I know that is definitely stress

I’ll suggest a “fix” for the hiatal hernia: it’s a protrusion of the stomach moved above the hiatus.
Drink two large glasses of water (each about 16 oz. or 450g). Stand on your toes and slam your heels to the floor. The weight of the water in your stomach should push your stomach back into its proper place.

it worked for me after suffering with it for a month.

Haha yes Jeff, I did this in summer, not sure if it worked or it went away on its own to be honest, I read people saying they heard a pop noise when it slid back in? Did you? Also, do you suffer from similar symptoms to this then?

I've played some squash today and just the exercise seems to helped a bit to be fair, do you think stress brings it on more or is that in my mind as well

The stomach has a direct connection to your brain and nervous system. It reacts instantly to your worrying. It does this to “save” you from a threat. I think that getting your focus off your stomach can help. Sometimes doctors prescribe a low dose of amitriptyline (10mg/day) to alleviate worry related stomach pain. Discuss it with your doctor.

Ye thanks Jeff I'll consider that, I think you're right about focus, any little thing and I'm there straight away focusing on it, really isn't helping, I'll sort it! Thanks all
